  So today I received my SIGNED COPY(!👌🏻) of Silent Fall, which is the first in the Detective Jack Kent series of psychological thriller / crime thrillers written by the fabulous author Nicky Downes (follow on ‘X’ @nicky_downes), & published by Storm Publishing (@Stormbooks_co). I have both read & previously reviewed this book, so DO feel free to continue to check out the review I’ve posted here on my blog.   Fallen Apples, CHAPTER ONE, Now, Katy and Cody stand up straight, at either side of the official looking woman. They stand facing the solid oak front door, the children’s faces are serious, yet expectant, without knowing quite what to expect when the front door is opened. They’re here to meet their aunt Jenna. They know ‘of’ her, yet don’t remember her. They’ve not seen her since they were newborns. This is their new home, so they’ve been told. Jenna will now be their legal guardian. Fallen Apples, PROLOGUE Early; That Morning, It’s a few hours before dawn, and the skies above are still a murky charcoal of heavy darkness, yet blue hues reverberate across the sky. There are multiple police cars surrounding the secluded house on the hill; no sirens blaring, just intermittently strobing blue lights, creating an insipid haze of colour around the area, as if only highlighting the gloom. The house itself stands still and foreboding. It looks like it could be haunted. But what’s really haunting, is what the house contains, inside, within its walls. Four dead bodies. Two adults, a male and a female, and two children, a boy and a girl, aged four and six. Each have been stabbed, repeatedly; slaughtered in their beds.
