Blurb;
Maddie Monroe was a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She wasn’t popular; she wasn’t unpopular. She blended. She was ordinary. In her last year of high school, she was doing well. She had her group of friends. She was happy. She was always seen smiling and laughing; just happy-go-lucky, going about her life. She hung out. She did what normal teenagers do. She had hopes for the future. She had dreams. But now, everything has changed.
“Omg, I absolutely love your hair! It’s so long! I know this may sound stupid, but can I please get a selfie?”
Maddie leant in, as Sandy held her phone outstretched in front of them; both smiling into the lens of the camera. Sandy pressed the shutter button, and with just a click, the photograph was taken.
Overnight, Maddie has become ‘that girl’. The girl who drove another girl of her age to take her own life. She feels like an outcast. Her friends don’t want to know her, and everyone else despises her. She feels that her whole life has crumbled down around her. Even her parents look at her differently, with disdain, disappointment, and hurt in their eyes. She now even despises herself. But she swears she never did anything to that girl; she didn’t even know her. But, it seems, no-one will, or is willing, to believe her.
They were “best friends”, Sandy had said. In her own written words, she had stated, “We used to do everything together”.
But why her? – Maddie asks herself. She knows she’s done nothing wrong, but how can she convince anyone of that? and that she’s telling the truth? - When everyone believes she is wicked, spiteful, and a bully? A murderer, even. She doesn’t know why this has happened. She doesn’t know quite what has happened. But she knows that she must find a way to prove her innocence, and to prove that Sandy was lying. And, for her own piece of mind, she feels that she has to know; and deserves to know, just why this has happened; to her.
